Pemberton Music Festival Rocks!
The first and hopefully first of many Pemberton Music Festivals wrapped up yesterday in beautifull Pemberton British Columbia, Canada (two hours north of Vancouver). The event attracted more than 40,000 festival goers and by all accounts was a huge success. Pemberton is a tiny village north of Vancouver and about an hours drive from world-famous ski resort Whistler. There had been reluctance on the part of some locals to hold such a huge event in their area but great organization, well behnaved crowds, and tonnes of security made for a great three days. Super stars Cold Play were the headliners but well known bands such as Tom Petty and The Heart Breakers, The Flaming Lips, Nine Inch Nails and all-time Canadian favorites The Tragically Hip were among many who put on great performances and sent the masses home happy. There is some debate as to whether the event will go for a second year but hopefully local government will see the value in such a well-organized event and allow it to carry on. The Pemberton Chamber of Commerce estimated an $8 million dollar influx of cash to the local economy. This is an area of stunning natural beauty and to have an event of this magnitude in the middle of nowhere made it even more special. I for one hope it continues for many years!
